Postdoctoral Research Associate:
Description:  Design in vitro studies for contact lens and lens care interactions with tear film components (e.g. lipids and proteins), including writing and executing protocols, data collection and analysis, and final reports.  Seek out gaps in current knowledge in this area and develop new methods to address them.  Candidate should be familiar with execution of clinical research studies and be able to closely coordinate with colleagues in clinical research and marketing groups.  Must be experience and effective in working in a cross functional team environment.  Candidate must also be proficient in designing and performing chemical bench studies, including wet chemistry (pH/osmolality), UV/vis spectroscopy, Thin Layer Chromatography, SDS-PAGE, ELISA, Western Blot, gel staining, biological assays, fluorescent markers and densitometry.  Hands-on experience with statistical analysis of data.  Must have a strong knowledge of Design of Experiment (DOE) techniques.  Familiarity with Six Sigma and Quality by Design principles desirable. 

This position is a 2 year contract with the Global Headquarters of a contact lens company located in Atlanta, GA.

General Description:
The incumbent will be responsible for initiating and conducting in vivo, ex vivo and in vitro biological studies to implement drug discovery strategies directed towards identification and characterization of novel chemical entities to treat dry eye and other ocular inflammatory and allergic conditions.

Responsibilities:
* Design and conduct in vivo studies in existing animal models of allergy, inflammation and dry eye
* Design and conduct ex vivo and in vitro analyses of cells and tissue
* Data management (interpretation, documentation)
* Develop and characterize new models of inflammation and dry eye
* Stay current with pertinent scientific literature
* Maintain compliance with Alcon R&D SOPs

Minimum Qualifications:
* Animal Experience is REQUIRED
* Doctorate degree within the scientific/technical discipline with no applicable years of experience
* Master’s degree within the scientific/technical discipline and 4-5 years of applicable experience
* Bachelor’s degree within the scientific/technical discipline and 8-9 years of applicable experience
