Alison Ng
Alison Ng graduated from the School of Optometry and Vision Sciences at Cardiff University, UK in 2006
, and qualified as an optometrist in 2007. She worked in private practice for several years before returning to Cardiff University to commence her Ph.D. Her doctoral thesis, completed in 2013, examined the effects of eye cosmetics on the ocular surface and tear film. Alison then completed a two-year post-doctoral fellowship at the Centre for Ocular Research & Education (CORE - formerly the Centre for Contact Lens Research [CCLR]) at the University of Waterloo, where she is now a Clinical Scientist. Prior to commencing her role at CORE, Alison was a clinical teacher at Cardiff University in the UK, and an invited faculty member at the Johnson & Johnson Institute UK, teaching courses on dry eye disease and red eye management. Alison publishes in peer-reviewed scientific journals such as
Ophthalmic and Physiological Optics,
Eye and Contact Lens, and presents her work at international conferences such as ARVO, BCLA and the American Academy of Optometry. She has co-authored a textbook chapter on diagnostic instruments in contact lens practice. Her research interests focus on the interaction of the anterior eye and ocular surface in response to the environment and external stimuli, including contact lenses and cosmetic products, dry eye disease and nutrition. When she’s not involved in clinical research, Alison is an avid baker, a beginner flautist and novice triathlete.
