Edoardo Villani

Professor Edoardo Villani, MD, FEBO, FARVO, is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Milan (Italy). His clinical and surgical practice centers on ocular surface and anterior segment disease in both adults and children, and he devotes substantial effort to education, mentoring, and tutoring of medical, orthoptic, and PhD students and residents. His research spans the physiology and pathophysiology of the ocular surface, in vivo imaging, and the development and validation of novel biomarkers, with the goal of advancing patient-centered care and improving medical and surgical management of anterior segment conditions. An invited speaker at more than 200 national and international meetings and co-author of over 100 peer-reviewed papers, Professor Villani also contributes to the field through editorial and society service: he serves on the Editorial Board of Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science and as Senior Associate Editor of The Ocular Surface; he is a TFOS Ambassador, a Board Member of the European Dry Eye Society, a member of the Ocular Surface, Inflammation, Dry Eye and Allergies (OSIDA) Expert Committee of EVICR.net, and a member of the Operating Committee of the European School for Advanced Studies in Ophthalmology. As a TFOS Ambassador, he is committed to translating consensus reports and emerging evidence into practical guidance for clinicians and patients, fostering collaboration across disciplines, and promoting equitable access to high-quality ocular surface care.
