Erick Hernandez-Bogantes

Dr. Erick Hernández-Bogantes, MD is an ophthalmologist specializing in cornea, refractive surgery, and ocular surface diseases. He serves as the Director of Centro Ocular in Costa Rica, where he leads a multidisciplinary team dedicated to providing advanced medical and surgical eye care. He and also practices as an ophthalmologist at Asociados de Mácula, Vítreo y Retina and the Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social (CCSS) in Costa Rica.

Dr. Hernández-Bogantes completed his medical degree and ophthalmology residency training in Costa Rica, followed by a fellowship in Cornea, Refractive Surgery, and Ocular Surface at the Conde de Valenciana Institute in Mexico City. He later undertook a clinical observership at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, University of Miami, further enriching his expertise in anterior segment and corneal surgery.

His clinical and research interests focus on corneal transplantation, ocular surface reconstruction, and refractive surgery outcomes, with a particular emphasis on applying innovative technologies and evidence-based approaches to enhance visual outcomes and patient quality of life.

Latin American TFOS Ambassador Meeting

TFOS has organized a special meeting of the Latin American TFOS Ambassadors. This meeting, which will occur in Panama City this May, has two goals: first, to address the unmet needs for the management (e.g. diagnosis & treatment) of ocular surface diseases in their country/region, as well as what the Ambassadors perceive as short and long term scientific/clinical solutions; and second, to create a report for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
