Etty Bitton
Etty Bitton completed her Optometry degree at the University of Waterloo (1988), Canada, followed by a Master’s in Physiological Optics (1994) from the Université de Montréal (Montreal, Canada) in the area of tear film clinical physiology and its relevance in patients exhibiting dry eye. She presently holds the rank of Associate Professor, she is the Director of the Externship Program as well as the Director of the Dry Eye Clinic which was established in 2012. In 2015, Dr. Bitton was invited by the Tear Film & Ocular Surface Society (TFOS) to participate in the TFOS DEWS II, a global initiative to redefine dry eye. She represents TFOS as an Ambassador for Canada. In 2017 Dr. Bitton received the Lester B. Janoff Memorial Award from the Association of Optometric Contact Lens Educators for excellence in teaching, clinical work and publication, as well as the Thea Award from Women in Optometry on Mentoring. Dr. Bitton is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and the British Contact Lens Association, as well as a member of several regional and international professional organizations. Her research interests include tear film evaluation, dry eye and its effect on contact lens wear.
