José Manuel González-Méijome
Jose Manuel Gonzalez-Meijome received an Optics and Optometry Degree (with Honors) from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Higher Education at the University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain (1997). In 2007, he earned a PhD Degree at the University of Minho (UMinho) in Portugal, and has been Director of the Master in Advanced Optometry from 2008 to 2010 and Vice-Dean of the School of Sciences for Academic Affairs from 2013 to 2016. Dr. Gonzalez-Meijome is currently Full Professor of Optometry and Vision Science, Director of the Physics Department and Director of the PhD Program in Optometry and Vision Science at UMinho, in Braga, Portugal. He has authored or co-authored over 200 poster presentations, and delivered more than 270 oral communications in both national and international meetings, including 120 lectures as invited speaker, 15 of which were as a keynote speaker at international scientific meetings. Dr. Gonzalez-Meijome has authored over 20 book chapters (5 with Elsevier, Willey and CRC Press) and has edited or co-edited 3 books and 2 patent applications. He is Editor in Chief for the Journal of Optometry indexed in Pubmed Central (Peer-review journal of the Spanish General Council of Optometry) since 2010, and member of the Editorial Board of Biomedical Research International and Academic Editor of PLOS ONE. Dr. Gonzalez-Meijome was awarded International Optometrist of the Year, Polythecnic Univercity of Catalonia, Terrasa, Spain in 2016, Best Business Idea in the contest IDEALAB – TecMinho, Technological Campus, Portugal in 2015, and 1st Honorary member of the Galician Society of Clinical Optometry, Santiago de Compostela in Spain, and Scientific Merit Award by University of Minho in 2018.
