Kgao Legodi
Kgao Legodi graduated from the Medical University of South Africa (Medunsa) in 1996. Following an internship at Tintswalo Hospital, Dr. Legodi worked as a Medical Officer at Voortrekker Hospital, and then joined the Ophthalmology residency program from 1999 to 2003, at Nelson Mandela Medical School under Professor Anne Peters. Currently, he is working at Medforum Medi-Clinic in Pretoria, Donald Gordon Hospital in Johannesburg and as Sessional Specialist at 1 Military Hospital. Dr. Legodi was also engaged with sessional work at Pretoria Academic Hospital (Steve Biko) in teaching and training retina specialists. In addition to his medical practice, Dr. Legodi is involved locally in many positions aiming to improve the Ophthalmology service in South Africa and Africa. He is the first former black President of Ophthalmology Society of South Africa (OSSA), Member of South African Vitreo-Retinal Society (SAVRS), Member of South African Medical Association (SAMA), and former Councilor of College of Medicine in South Africa (CMSA). Internationally, Dr. Legodi is Vice President of ICO (International Council of Council), and First African World Ophthalmology Congress President 2020 (Cape Town), American Academy of Ophthalmology Trustee Board Member at Large, Former Advisory Board member (ICO), and President elect of African Ophthalmology Council (AOC). He was awarded with the NELSON MANDELA GOLD AWARD by H.E MR Jacob Zuma, President of South Africa, and the Trelawney 43 recognition award in Swaziland by the Deputy Prime Minister of Swaziland. Dr. Legodi is married to Tshego and has two children.
