Kyung Chul Yoon
Kyung-Chul Yoon is a Professor and Chair in the Department of Ophthalmology, Chonnam National University Medical School and Hospital in Gwangju, Korea, where he completed his residency. Dr. Yoon completed fellowships at Keio University School of Medicine (Japan, 2004) and at the Cullen Eye Institute of the Baylor College of Medicine (Houston, TX, 2006-2007). Dr. Yoon specializes in external eye diseases and cataract and refractive surgery. His main research fields include tear film and ocular surface disorders, specifically dry eye disease, and he has been participating in clinical and experimental research in dry eye disease since 2003. Dr. Yoon was the first to apply umbilical cord serum eye drops and photodynamic therapy for many ocular surface diseases and has developed new drug delivery systems for dry eye treatment, including anti-oxidant glasses, periocular TRPM8 application, and cyclosporine-eluting contact lenses. Dr. Yoon has authored 150 domestic and 150 international publications as well as 9 book chapters. He is a member of the Cornea Society, Asia Cornea Society and Asia Dry Eye Advisory Board, and is an editorial board member of Chonnam Medical Journal, World Journal of Ophthalmology and Journal of Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology. Dr. Yoon is currently Director of the Korean Ophthalmological Society, the Korean Dry Eye Society, the Korean Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Korean Society of External Eye Diseases and the Korean Society of Contact Lens Study Group.
