LucĂa Falla

I am an ophthalmologist with a strong clinical and academic focus on refractive surgery, corneal disease, and ocular surface disorders. I completed my Master’s degree in Ophthalmology and a fellowship in Anterior Segment in Guatemala, and further enriched my training through an observership in Bogotá, Colombia. These experiences broadened my clinical perspective and reinforced my interest in comprehensive anterior segment care.
Throughout my practice, I have developed a particular interest in the diagnosis and management of keratoconus, advanced refractive procedures, and dry eye disease. I currently serve as Medical Director of Intevisa Eye Clinic, where I lead a specialized ocular surface care model. At Intevisa, we have performed more than 50,000 dry eye treatments, including Thermo Lip Therapy, IPL, LLLT, Rexon-Eye, Jet Plasma, and eyelid debridement procedures. This high-volume clinical experience has allowed us to develop a consistent and practical approach to managing chronic and complex ocular surface conditions.
A significant part of my clinical work is dedicated to evaporative dry eye and meibomian gland dysfunction. I have extensive hands-on experience with advanced therapeutic technologies such as eyelid thermal therapies, intense pulsed light (IPL), low-level light therapy (LLLT), Rexon-Eye, and plasma-based treatments. My approach goes beyond symptom relief, focusing on long-term improvement of ocular surface health and patients’ quality of life through personalized, evidence-based treatment strategies.
I am deeply committed to medical education and regularly teach dry eye disease to residents from all four ophthalmology residency programs in Guatemala. I also participate as a speaker in national and international conferences and webinars. In addition, I am a speaker for Alcon, contributing to scientific discussions on innovation, technology, and best clinical practices in ophthalmology.
I believe that technology, empathy, and a holistic understanding of the patient must work together to achieve meaningful and sustainable outcomes. My professional journey is driven by continuous learning, clinical excellence, and a genuine commitment to improving visual and ocular surface health.
