Luis Alberto Rodríguez-Gutiérrez
Luis Rodriguez is an Associate Professor of Cornea and Ocular Surface at the Ophthalmology Department of the Dr. Domingo Luciani Hospital of the Universidad Central de Venezuela, Caracas, Venezuela. He completed his medical degree and ophthalmology residency at the Intituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, Mexico and a fellowship program in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the Asociacion Para Evitar La Ceguera in Mexico City, Mexico. Dr. Rodriguez also completed a short-term Ocular Surface Fellowship at Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai, India and a research fellowship at the Mcknight Vision Research Center from the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, USA. He has co-authored more than 15 peer-reviewed scientific publications, and has presented his research as posters or oral presentations in more than 30 conferences. He is a member of several scientific associations including the Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology (PAAO), Tear Film and Ocular Surface Society (TFOS), the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS). Dr. Rodriguez serves as the Director of the Cornea Fellowship Program of the Dr. Domingo Luciani Hospital, and as the liaison of the Cornea Department with the National Eye Bank of Venezuela. His main interests include high risk corneal transplantation, dry eye, keratoprosthesis, ocular surface reconstruction, infectious keratitis, and refractive surgery. He enjoys playing golf, tennis and traveling.
