Malgorzata Mrugacz
Malgorzata Mrugacz is Professor of Ophthalmology and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology and Eye Rehabilitation at Medical University of Bialystok, Poland. She is an ophthalmologist with a special interest in external eye disease, i.e. dry eye involvement in ocular surface immunology, specifically the role of cytokines, chemokines, class II antigens HLA DR, and ICAM-1 in conjunctival inflammation and apoptosis. Dr. Mrugacz is also interested in diagnosis and treatment of retinal changes in patients with myopia and glaucoma. Clinical practice includes an interest in the management of amblyopia and using strabismus surgery and botulinum toxin to treat strabismus. In addition to research, Professor Mrugacz concentrates extensively on teaching medical students in ophthalmology and eye research. Dr. Mrugacz has published over 250 peer-reviewed articles and served as the Editorial Board Member for a number of journals including Progress in Health Sciences, Journal of Ophthalmology and Optometry, and Journal of Ophthalmology and Clinical Research. She is a member of Polish Ophthalmological Society, Polish Electrophysiology Society, European Pediatric Ophthalmology Society, European Association for Vision and Eye Research, American Academy of Ophthalmology, New York Academy of Sciences, and Doctors Without Borders. She identifies with the quote of Hippocrates: “Wherever the art of Medicine is loved, there is also a love of Humanity.” She enjoys spending time with her family, including her dog, and she also enjoys biking, skiing and the simple joys of life.
