Monica Alves
Monica Alves is a collaborating professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Brazil. She obtained her medical degree from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora in 1998, her Ph.D. from the University of Campinas in 2006 in dry eye animal models of diabetes and aging, and completed a post doc at the University of São Paulo, in clinical studies of dry eye and the ocular surface. Dr. Alves is a member of the Brazilian Council of Ophthalmology and American Academy of Ophthalmology, editorial Board member of Ophthalmology section of the journal Scientific Reports, Arquivos Brasileiros de Oftalmologia, and reviewer of several other peer-reviewed journals. Professor Alves is also involved with ophthalmic clinical and surgical practice, resident training and research on ocular surface and dry eye, and a subcommittee member of the TFOS DEWS II in epidemiology. As a TFOS Ambassador for Brazil, she believes that collaboration, dissemination and promotion of the TFOS mission in emerging regions, such as Brazil and Latin America, will establish TFOS as the leader of scientific and educational initiatives in ocular surface and tear film fields.
