Rachna Murthy
Miss Rachna Murthy is a multi-award-winning Consultant Ophthalmologist, Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgeon based in London, Cambridge & Jersey Channel Islands, and Co-Founder of the award-winning practices, FaceRestoration & Maison Restorative. She is internationally recognised for her expertise in ocular surface health, thyroid eye disease, regenerative aesthetics, and periocular surgery, with a career dedicated to advancing both patient care and safety standards.
Educated at Imperial College London, Miss Murthy completed advanced fellowship training at Moorfields Eye Hospital, Chelsea & Westminster Craniofacial Unit, and the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne. Before transitioning into full-time private practice, she led the Cambridge University Hospitals Thyroid Eye Disease Service, a quaternary referral centre, and pioneered innovative approaches in periocular skin cancer surgery for Ipswich, enhancing both functional and cosmetic outcomes.
She is one of very few surgeons invited as a member of the British, American, and European Societies of Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, and sits on the Royal Society of Medicine Ophthalmology Council. Alongside her surgical career, she has become an internationally sought-after faculty member at leading ophthalmology, oculoplastics and aesthetics conferences including TFOS, IMCAS Paris, ACE, CCR, FACE, ESOPRS, ASOPRS, AAO, and the International Thyroid Eye Disease Conference. Her teaching spans not only academia and the NHS, but also the Allergan Medical Institute, where she is faculty for global standards in aesthetic safety.
Her clinical and research focus includes the impact of cosmetics on the ocular surface, the gut–eye–skin axis through microbiome health, and regenerative periocular treatments. As a Tear Film & Ocular Surface Society speaker and workshop participant, she has shaped education on lifestyle and cosmetic impacts on dry eye disease and ocular surface health to eyecare providers and consumers. She chaired the nutrition and eye health session at OSD-DE London 2024 and delivered a TFOS lecture in Venice 2024 on the impact of cosmetics on the ocular surface .
As a key opinion leader, Miss Murthy is a regular contributor to international medical education, media, and peer-reviewed literature, with her expertise in periocular aesthetics and ocular surface health widely featured in The Aesthetics Journal, Tatler, Hello!, Telegraph, and Daily Mail. She has given a TEDx talk on harnessing the microbiome for bioharmonisation. She actively bridges medical excellence with public engagement, sharing insights through major consumer wellness platforms such as The Beauty Triangle and Pause Live, furthering the conversation on ocular safety and healthy ageing.
Her awards reflect her dual expertise in surgery and aesthetics: Consultant Surgeon of the Year (Aesthetic Awards 2022), Highly Commended Consultant Surgeon of the Year (2023), Aesthetic Doctor of the Year (Safety in Beauty Awards 2024), and an IMCAS 2025 Award for Educational Contribution.
Dedicated to mentoring and inclusivity, she supports the next generation of surgeons through Women in Surgery and the Diversity Project. Her philosophy is patient-centred, safety-driven, and rooted in excellence, making her a leading voice at the interface of ocular surface science, surgery, and regenerative aesthetics.
