Ray Jui-Fang Tsai
Ray Jui-Fang Tsai is the Superintendent of the Taipei Eye Center, Chairman of Taiwan Prevent Blindness Foundation (TPBF), and an Affiliate Professor at Taipei Medical University. He is also teaching Ph.D. candidates at the Genomics Research Center, Academia Sinica. Professor Tsai received training at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida in 1986-1988, where he learned how to apply basic scientific knowledge to unresolved clinical problems. He founded the Taipei Eye Center in 2005 and established a high standard lab for research. For over 30 years, he has devoted himself to the study of limbal stem cell transplantation. Dr. Tsai has developed the culture system for limbal stem cells and conjunctival goblet cells differentiation, as well as the clinical method for ocular surface reconstruction, exemplified in his unique “Ex vivo limbal stem cells expansion technique” for ocular surface reconstruction, that has saved people’s vision, and “Reconstruction of Damaged Corneas by Transplantation of Autologous Limbal Epithelial Cells” which was published in The New England Journal of Medicine Vol. 343, No.2, 2000.
