Sophal Heng
Sophal Heng was born to pharmacist parents in 1984, in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. He graduated from the University of Health Sciences there, earning his medical doctor degree in 2009, and specialized in Ophthalmology in 2011. Dr. Heng volunteered as an Ophthalmologist at Siem Reap Provincial Hospital in Siem Reap Province for one year after graduation, and in 2014, he received a scholarship to study cornea and external diseases at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary at Havard Medical School in Boston, USA. Recently, he is working at Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital, where he trained to be a gluacoma specialist by Sight For All, Australia. His dream is for all Cambodian patients to have access to in-country health care services, and he feels that providing patients with eye care is his small contribution. Besides working as an Ophthalmologist, Dr. Heng also lectures at the University of Health Sciences, Brian Holden Vision Institute and the Norton University of Health Sciences. His research about the prevalence of endophthalmitis post cataract surgery was recently awarded at Asia-Pacific Academy Congress. He lives in Phnom Penh with his wife Chheng Y HAM, who is also an Ophthalmologist, and their baby girl Salina. Besides working, teaching and new research studies, they both have one thing in common - they both love to travel.
