Vladimir Brzheskiy

Head of the Ophthalmology Department of the St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University.
Born in 1963 in Leningrad, he graduated from the Kirov Military Medical Academy with a gold medal in 1986.
After military service in Kazakhstan, he returned to Leningrad and continued his postgraduate work at the Ophthalmology Department of the Military Medical Academy. He worked on surgical treatment of patients with eye wounds and burns, as well as biochemical studies of lacrimal fluid for diagnostic purposes. He defended his PhD thesis in 1990 on the topic: "Tear Fluid in the Diagnosis of Certain Eye Injuries and Diseases." During this time, he also began working on dry eye disease. Subsequently, after completing his military service, he was elected associate professor, and then professor, in the Department of Ophthalmology at the St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University. In 1998, he defended his doctoral thesis on "Diagnosis and Treatment of Dry Eye Syndrome." He continued to work on “dry” and “wet” eyes, as well as surgical treatment of children and adults with lacrimal disorders. He developed a unique artificial tear composition and a lacrimal duct obturator used to treat dry eye syndrome with severe tear deficiency.
Today, Vladimir V. Brzheskiy is a Doctor of Medical Sciences and Professor. His primary research interests include lacrimal organ pathology in children and adults, meibomian gland dysfunction, chronic blepharitis, congenital glaucoma, myopia, pediatric ophthalmotraumatology, and other areas. He is actively involved in teaching, lecturing to physicians and students, delivering scientific papers, and educational presentations (primarily on TFOS materials) in many cities across Russia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.
He is the author of over 700 scientific papers, including 15 monographs, 20 manuals for physicians and students, and 19 inventions. He has supervised 15 candidate thesis in Russia and 3 PhD thesis in Kazakhstan, primarily devoted to ocular surface pathology and dry eye syndrome.

He is the chairman of the St. Petersburg Scientific Medical Society of Pediatric Ophthalmologists and member of the Presidium of the Russian Ophthalmology Society.
He is also a member of the European Glaucoma Society and the International Society of Dacryology and Dry Eye.
